W

hen things go a little haywire
with our bodies, it’s easy to
assume that our dietary
choices are responsible. Weight gain?
Must have been last week’s indulgence.
Skin breaking out? Chocolate or fast
food tends to be the culprit. Struggling
with sleep? Just a few too many coffees.
We don’t always stop to think about the
role our hormones might be playing.
Hormones are chemical messengers
in the body that influence a huge range
of our bodily functions, meaning that
having our hormones in balance is
essential for wellbeing. Unfortunately,
it’s becoming more common for our
hormones to be out of whack, due to
factors like stress and diet.
Kiwi company Eve Health surveyed
more than 14,000 women about their
hormones and found 87 percent
experienced signs of hormone
imbalance on a regular basis.
Hormone imbalance can show up in
many ways, in issues like weight
management, low energy,
PMS, fertility problems, low
libido and mood swings. In
men, issues with weight,
libido, hair loss and
fatigue are some
indications that there
may be an imbalance.
Weight gain is a
great example of the
power our hormones

have. Hormones like oestrogen,
progesterone, testosterone and
insulin are all key players in weight
management. If any of them become out
of balance, we may find that we gain
weight or have trouble losing weight.
Hormone testing is the most effective
way to understand where
your body is at, and the
good news is that you can
do it in the comfort of your
home. Eve offers a hormone
test that can be purchased
online, then through a urine
sample anaylsed at their lab, are able to
measure your primary sex hormones
and a comprehensive range of other
hormone markers.
You’ll receive an easy-to-understand
report of what your results mean, as
well as arming you with diet, lifestyle
and nutritional recommendations
personalised to your hormonal picture.
Retesting can also be handy to track
how your hormone balace is changing.
A hormone test is not a tool to
diagnose a medical condition

  • that’s where your GP
    comes in. It allows you
    to gain insights into
    your hormones,
    inspiring you to take
    a more empowered
    approach to your
    health, knowing you’re
    making changes that are
