F
itness doesn’t have to mean getting
out of breath and feeling sweaty –
incorporating slower, more controlled
moves into your day is also useful for overall
health as doing this can help improve your
posture. It helps to stretch out as often as you
can to keep your joints loose and muscles
flexible. This has many benefits, not least
in helping you breathe better. Good posture
allows greater air flow into your lungs, as the
more oxygen circulating, the more energy you
will have, and the better you’ll feel. Here’s
how to ease your way towards a
better-feeling body in five simple
moves...
Shoulder squeeze
YOUR SHOULDERS ARE ONE OF THE
FIRST THINGS THAT HUNCH AND TENSE
AFTER A LONG DAY SITTING OR
FEELING STRESSED. COUNTERACT THE
SLUMP WITH THIS GENTLE SQUEEZE...
1 Stand up straight with your arms
by your sides.
2 Squeeze your shoulder blades
together behind you as hard as you
can without causing discomfort.
You’ll feel your upper back muscles
engage. Remember not to arch your
back to help with the movement,
simply use your shoulder blades.
3 Hold this position for a count of
five, then relax.
4 Repeat this exercise 10 times.
