Womankind – August 2019

Fashion 65 DEFIANTLY FEMININE

It is often in this process I find a lot of my
inspiration. I have a very sculptural ap-
proach to my designs and I love to work
with the fabric on the stands creating dif-
ferent silhouettes.
I always come back to volume, big
sleeves, open backs and panelled dresses.
On my mood board there are some items
which will always be there; such as old
textile techniques, girls in groups, uni-
forms, villages, and sculptures.

Did you always dream of being a
fashion designer, and what is it like to
have fulfilled a childhood dream?

Since I was a child I have always
known that I wanted to work in fashion
and textiles. From a really young age my
grandmother taught me how to do em-
broidery and to knit, I was always inter-
ested in traditional craftsmanship and
techniques. I loved to play with these and
work with them in new ways, something
which is still very key for the brand.
There is a very big difference between
the childhood idea of what it is - and what
it takes - to work in fashion and establish
your own brand. It is not just about beau-
tiful fabrics and dresses; it takes a lot of
hard work and dedication.
