Fashion is a big part of our identi-
ty. But this power also comes with
much responsibility. Sustainability
is critical, and big brands have a
responsibility to make their produc-
tion more ecological. It is equally
important that everyone in society
is aware of how their day-to-day ac-
tivities affect climate change. We all
need to be more thoughtful about
how we live. And we also need to
take action.

Were you creative as a child?
I have always enjoyed drawing
and painting, and as a child my
mother taught me how to knit. All
the women in my family are good at

knitting, so I was brought up with a
deep respect for all kinds of crafts-
manship. When I was around seven
years old, I made books with draw-
ings of imprisoned princesses, all of
them miserable and sad. So, I sup-
pose, I have always felt the desire to
tell a story - often a sad one.

You did a student internship at
John Galliano and Christian Dior

  • how did these experiences shape
    your later work?
At Galliano I learnt that you can
    create experimental dreams with
clothes. I loved to see that almost
everything was made by hand, and
    not by a computer.
