Join all raglan seams using top sewing
or mattress stitch.
With RS facing, using 3.25mm (UK 10,
US 3) needles, starting and ending at

holder, pick up and knit 6 sts around
shaping at top of left sleeve, and 5 (7:

Cast off.

Making up
Join side and sleeve seams using top
sewing or mattress stitch. Make a
button loop at one end of neckband and
attach button at other end of neckband
to fasten back neck opening.

Bird motif
Using 3.25mm (UK 10, US 3) needles

and B, cast on 17 sts.
Work 2 rows in st-st.
Inc one st at each end of next and foll
alt rows to 2 1 sts.
Next row P to end.
Next row K to end.
Next row P to last st, inc in last st.
Rep last 2 rows once more.
Next row K to end.
Next row Cast off 8 sts, p to last 2 sts,
p2tog. 14 sts
Work 2 rows, dec one st at end of row
and at beg of foll row. 1 2 sts
Rep last 2 rows once more. 10 sts
Dec 1 st at each end of every row to 6 sts.
Cast off.
Attach motif to Front of sweater. Work a
French knot for the eye, and backstitch
for the beak and legs using black DK.

Dinosaur motif
Using 3.25mm (UK 10, US 3) needles
and A, cast on 1 5 sts.

It’s in the detail
When you come to work the
embroidered detail on the bird,
look in your stash for some black
DK – you could even use 4ply or
embroidery thread if you prefer.
Work backstitch for the legs and
a French knot for the bird’s eye,
wrapping the yarn around the
needle twice for a plump knot.
