W

ith India offering just 4 seats for every 100 MBBS
aspirants, a lot many students are pushed to explor-
ing options of doing MBBS abroad. This has also
spawned a host of institutions offering MBBS across the globe
(largely in Russia, African nations, Philippines etc.). Medical
Council of India (MCI) on its website also has, without verifi-
cation and due diligence, accorded approval to 439 institutions
offering MBBS outside India. Some of these are dubious and
can be termed ‘Degree Mills’ with no learning outcome. Many
students who studied in these institutions paid huge money and
have repeatedly suffered the consequences of no classes, little
learning, more demands for money etc.
We do not have the wherewithal to rate/rank foreign col-
leges. Neither do we have information to form a view nor
the authority to seek more information. So, we decided to

trust the global ranking agencies for their rigour and pro-

cesses. We filtered for the Indian students and 100 institutes

that have a greater degree of verifiability, transparency and

information. These institutes are ranked by one or more of

the trusted global rankings. We picked up only those institu-

tions that are ranked by QS, CWUR, THE and ARWU. Our

objective is to guide Indian students who wish to pursue their

MBBS dreams from an institution outside of India.

Important NOTE

OStudents must choose only those colleges that have been

approved by MCI and ranked by global ranking agencies

ONEET qualification is mandatory. Any institution prom-

ising MBBS without qualification in NEET is making

false promises and must be strictly avoided.

OTo practise in India, students must pass a qualifying exam

after returning to India.
