The neighbourhood of this hotel restaurant in Madrid played a central role in the direction
taken for its interior design. Infused with literary history, as well as a rich tradition of still-active
commercial shops selling colourful, trendy fashion, the Atocha Street address is evocative and
very popular. The whimsical, lively design for the restaurant and bar area takes polychromatic
cues from the nearby shops and their offerings, cooking up a rainbow recipe of greens, reds,
yellows and pinks, set out over enlivened patterns of floor tiling.
The rooms of the restaurant are intimate and introverted, with specific tones assigned to different
zones of the space. There are large main areas that are more open and flank the entrance and
lobby of the hotel in two sub-spaces. These are characterised by two open bars in bright red,
which in the morning do duty as breakfast buffet, and later on evolve for lunch and dinner. These
areas also feature signs from some of the classic shops nearby – a direct reference and homage.
The colours here are blue, green and yellow, all bright and primary strength. The walls and
ceilings are panelled in wood boards with a grid of frames.
