In smaller spaces that feel almost like private dining rooms,
different tones take over: pink and tan in one, vermilion and red
in another. Walls are padded in quilted panels that follow the
colour schemes, and ceilings play along too. Simple furnishings
use paler versions of the same palette. The approach is all
about the colours, and the result is fresh and certainly youthful.
In a way, the restaurant tests the limits of a single component,
pushing things to the ‘almost-Disney’ level to see what they
yield. It wouldn’t work for a serious programme, but for a bar and
restaurant, why not? You might not want to spend days and days
here – the richness gets awfully sweet awfully quickly, but for a
night out with friends, it works. One of the ways things are kept
in control is via the ‘knowing’ details of occasional contrast fields
of colour, such as abstract fields of peach, or a pair of yellow
triangles on a wall of green... These let everyone know that this
isn’t just a fun-house, it’s a curated study of tonality. But let’s be
clear: you’d need to choose your outfit a bit more carefully than
usual if you planned on eating here.
