small moments of drama,
witnessed from either era’s
architectural portion.
The interiors are
contemporary, bright
with natural light, and
complemented by those
ocean views. They are
in general fairly humble,
just-get-on-with-it spaces,
with no major attempts to
flourish or decorate. The
building is in fact marked
by its modesty. It is in
the massing and the site
strategy that it impresses
most; the design’s most
aggressive aspect is
the footprint shape, and
of course the way that
interacts with its place.
Not part of a conventional
campus grouping in any
sense, the University of
Chicago Hong Kong staff
and students will no doubt
enjoy the atmosphere of
this academic ‘villa’.
