The far walls are decorated in a strong black
graphic pattern of (Western) alphabet letters.
The floors are pale grey-and-white-patterned tiles,
the tables lacquered white, and fabrics in muted
taupes. You wouldn’t call Cup One a ‘cosy’ place
exactly, because its tones are so washed out, and
the lighting is strong. This is a monochromatic
approach using different patterns and textures
rather than changes of colour. It’s all quite creamy
and ‘clean’, and upends our associations with
coffee clubs as all warm wood and dark fabrics. As
with a good latte, perhaps, the kick comes later.
