Spanish Sets
May saw five new items from Alegre Design on display at Interzum 2019, where the Spanish industrial-design studio
was showcasing products created for technical and advanced materials research.

Sling is a space-saving folding hanger designed for furniture-fittings-solutions company Emuca. “This product allows
you to hang large-sized garments at a height, making them more accessible and making the most of the interior of
your wardrobes and closets,” says Alegre Design. “It also has a system of shock absorbers that provides greater
safety when you are raising and lowering the piece.”

Rail is a task chair with an elastic mesh seat and back. It comes in two heights and uses thermoplastic material in its
construction, which, says Alegre, “enhances efficiency and durability and creates a new standard”.

KLC is multipurpose chair with a writing tablet and under-seat storage designed for Italian office-furniture maker
OMP Group. “A cross-sectional product based on a sculptural and subtle seat: a gentle and minimalist sitting
experience, with no sharp edges or curves, defined by lines and gestures that suggest shapes and welcome the
user in an ergonomic and smooth way,” adds Alegre.

Lineal and Core are seating strips, holding any number of seats. Lineal is made of steel and designed for the
waiting areas of health centres; Core has aluminium components and higher-end specifications, as well as a greater
selection of finish options. Both are equipped with electrical connections and USB points.

Interzum is a furniture fair held biennially in Cologne, Germany; it claims to be the industry’s largest event. “The
whole sector attends the trade fair to experience product premieres first-hand and to get a glimpse into the future.
Topics such as the conservation of resources, sustainability, upcycling and the increased interest in digitalised living
environments are all covered,” says Interzum. This year’s edition ran from 21 to 24 May.

Artistic Highball
A new public art installation has popped up on the waterfront in Dubai Creek
Harbour. Titled Joy, the piece is the work of Indian industrial designer Vibhor
Sogani. It looks like a steel-ball bouquet plonked in an enormous metal vase.
At its tallest point Joy reaches a height of 30 metres. As with much else
of the Jaipur-born artist’s work, the installation’s primary material is highly
polished mirror-finish stainless steel. “Depicted as a bouquet of balloons, it
reflects the ever-changing environment as the passerby catches a glimpse
of themselves in it,” says Studio Vibhor Sogani communications manager
Sejal Arora. Joy is situated near the site of the still-under-construction Dubai
Creek Tower, a Santiago Calatrava-designed observation tower that aims to
take the mantle of “world’s tallest building” upon its completion in 2020.
