nspired by Schumacher’s Queen of Spain wallpaper, which
was introduced in 1963 when it was featured in an iconic
black-and-white photo of Mick Jagger, Castle Design created a
hip-traditional powder room for their clients. The designer created a
scheme that blended traditional elements found in the home with
modern details to create a space fit for the trendsetting wallcovering the
homeowners requested. Brass elements, such as the angular sconces
and delicate framed mirror, pop against the organically patterned
wallpaper. The Kohler Purist faucet is a modern twist on a vintage
cross-handle design. The room’s petite footprint of only four feet was
a challenge, but the designer embraced the small square footage by
designing tailored elements like the custom-made floating vanity to

fit perfectly into the floor plan. The homeowners have three young
children, so functionality was also key. Castle Design incorporated
a vanity backsplash and solid wood chair rail with panel molding to
ensure durability and easy clean up. This small space is now elevated
with style and a little rockstar swagger.

Why the judges love it: We love the rockstar approach the designer
brought to the space. The wainscoting is beautiful. They took a chance
