It’s been barely nine months since Jigger & Pony
moved into its new home, but here they are with a
new cocktail menu. Then again, this is the bar that
jumped 33 spots to number 9 on Asia’s 50 Best Bars
2019—Jigger & Pony is not one to rest on its laurels.
Discovery is part of this menu’s ‘Let’s Drink
Better’ ethos, with a focus on showcasing spirits not
conventionally involved in cocktail-making: eau de
vie, rhum agricole (rum made from sugar cane juice,
instead of the usual molasses-based white and dark
rums) and shochu. Case in point? Williams Cooler
($23), a highball made elegant with subtle hints of
freshly cut pear, achieved by substituting whisky with
two Williams Pear brandies.
Barley Manhattan ($23) is another intriguing one
to consider, with pure barley shochu thrown into the

fray. The prominent toastiness and that dry shochu
buzz makes it not quite a Manhattan as we know
it, but also very intriguing: Keep nursing it, and it
starts to show an incredibly comforting, cocoa-like
maltiness.
June Bug ($23), typically a saccharine tropical
number, is finessed into a sour, with soju, awamori
(a rice liquor unique to Okinawa), coconut rum
and house-made midori. It’s remarkably clean
and refreshing, but the biggest reason to order is
to have an excuse to sample the midori—unlike
the artificial-tasting commercial variety, this one
brims with the natural sweetness of cantaloupe and
honeydew.
