Whisky Wednesdays are a thing
Fact 1: Whisky Wander is a new whisky-centric bar
hop, brought to you by the same people behind the
now-iconic Gin Journey.
Fact 2: Singapore has the honour of being the
first-ever city for the programme.
Here’s how it works: For $128 per person, you
get to hit up three of the city’s top bars to sample
four to six brands and expressions, with classic
cocktails and some substantial snacks for good
measure.
The Wednesdays-only programme is currently
focused on introductory tours, though there are
plans to offer alternative routes that make deep
dives into specific styles or regions. On occasion,
some tours will also be accompanied by brand
ambassadors and master distillers. Single Cask, MO
Bar and La Maison du Whisky form the current

line-up, with tasters of Michter’s (the U.S.), Port
Charlotte (Scotland), Speyburn (Scotland), Kavalan
(Taiwan) and Teeling (Ireland).
Perhaps thanks to their experience running
Gin Journey, the Whisky Wander feels particularly
convivial—much more laidback and interactive
than a standard masterclass. Instead of hard facts,
pertinent bits of history are woven into a story, with
political and cultural contexts provided to illuminate
the ‘why’. Sometimes, props come into the picture
too, such as when a hunk of peat is torched during a
primer on Scotches.
For sure, much effort has been made to
democratise whisky-drinking and make it fun. But
for 2019, our vote for the most genial experience goes
to Whisky Wander.
