Born 20 years ago on the rugged cliffs of the Oregon Coast,
Bandon Dunes wowed its first golfers, giving North America
its first true taste of links golf. No doubt, David McLay Kidd’s
classic design helped spark a revolution, and helped show us
all “Golf as it was meant to be.”
Much has changed at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort since the
visions of Mike Keiser and Kidd were first revealed in 1999.
Bandon Dunes is now one of four lauded championship golf
courses and a beloved 13-hole short course. The resort now of-
fers 186 rooms. Its multiple restaurants are award-winning. But
the same feeling that tantalized those first Bandon pioneers —
an experience that many would go on and tell the world about
— endures still today.
Bandon Dunes is celebrating its 20th birthday in the best way
it knows how — by gently rolling back the ravages of Mother
Nature and returning the course to its original vision. And Kidd

BANDON DUNES

himself has returned to freshen his groundbreaking work. The
update, which was completed in spring 2019, included the
renovation of every bunker, and modest design tweaks meant
to enhance and restore the strategy of each hole.
Of course, Bandon Dunes wants to share its 20th birthday
with those who love it, as well as those who want to experi-
ence it for the first time. Bandon’s Junior Bandonista program

returns this summer. From Mother's Day Weekend through July
31, parents can treat their young golfer, 22 years of age and
younger, to a free round on any of Bandon Dunes’ courses after
10 a.m., so long as they play with their Junior Bandonista.
The USGA will give Bandon Dunes another reason to
celebrate when it returns in May for the 2019 U.S. Amateur
Four-Ball at Old MacDonald and Pacific Dunes. Then In 2020,
Bandon Dunes joins an exclusive club when it hosts the world’s
best amateurs at the 120th playing of the U.S. Amateur Cham-
pionship.
Traveling to Bandon Dunes has been made considerably eas-
ier with seasonal nonstop service on United Airlines between
Denver International Airport (DEN) and Southwest Oregon
Regional Airport (OTH) in nearby North Bend, just a 30-min-
ute shuttle ride from the resort. The service includes roundtrip
flights on Sunday and Wednesday from June 9 through Oct. 2.
It’s been 20 years since Bandon Dunes first wowed golfers.
But it’s never been a better time to experience “Golf as it was
meant to be.”
