Channel your inner amateur photographer – Kreuzberg
is the most Instagrammable borough in Berlin. The
streets are a canvas of street art, lined with pastel-
coloured buildings and hip vegan cafes. According to
Expedia, it’s the place to be; with a 15 per cent year-on-
year rise in the number of Aussies heading there.

... dining at Cookies Cream. Once a trendy nightclub,
the Michelin-star vegetarian restaurant is hidden
behind an unassuming door in an industrial alleyway
in Mitte, with only a flickering chandelier guiding the
way inside. It truly is a dining experience like no
other; each dish is a piece of art, almost too good
looking to eat. Almost. Try the vegetarian caviar with
egg yolk, potato, sour cream and brown butter, and
order whatever wine the waiter suggests.

LOCAL KNOWLEDGE
After you’ve snapped the local tourist attractions (East
Side Gallery and Checkpoint Charlie), make like a local
and head to Maroush, a hole-in-the-wall Lebanese
diner, for the best falafel of your life. If you really want
to fit in, head to the Liquidrom spa and alternate
between the Himalayan salt sauna, hot tub, floating
pool and Omm-sound pool. Swimwear is optional
in the pools and banned in the saunas. Be prepared:
German men are very comfortable in the nude – even
when it’s snowing outside. That’s Berlin, baby.
