BOARD FOR THIS
ACCESSORIES RANGE
and slouchy bucket bags will likely be lugged to
the office or grocery store, places where a touch
of escapism is always welcome. That said, they’ll
work equally well for weekends away, whether
journeying to far-flung jungles or not.
Then there’s the monogram, that iconic
interlocking L and V surrounded by petal patterns.
The brand’s signature was first created by Georges
Vuitton (son of Louis) in the late 19th century.
Inspired by the earthenware ceramic tiles in his
Parisian kitchen, it has served as the house’s stamp
of luxury ever since. This season sees it scaled up –
seriously up – and splashed onto every surface
of the new accessory designs. The magnified LV
initials prove strikingly graphic, even more so when
rendered in tiger, leopard and zebra motifs. Animal
print, after all, is widely considered a classic, but
with a little more kick than your standard neutral.
Fortune favours the bold, and it
turns out fashion does, too.
tty-bitty bags impart ladylike
loveliness; no-logo accessories are
timeless and chic. But in a world where
minimalism is so often hailed as the
ideal, there’s something to be said
for making a sartorial statement. Such was the
standpoint of Nicolas Ghesquière and his team
at Louis Vuitton when conjuring their latest
collection of carry-alls.
Titled Monogram Giant Jungle, the line has
its roots in Japan, where the house held its Cruise
2018 runway show. Set over a lush green valley
in south-east Kyoto, it was a spectacle of natural
hues and wild prints – leopard collars, furry
jackets and fierce boots – which formed the
mood board for this accessories range.
But that’s where the parallels with Japan stop.
In the true spirit of Vuitton – a brand founded on a
love of travel – the collection looks set to whisk you
away to the jungle. A jaunt in the Amazon, perhaps?
Maybe a trek through Tanzania or a break in Belize?
It’s ideal, really, given that the roomy canvas totes
