“I love everything about the wild, hippie era – the rebellion,
emotion, music and, of course, the fashion. I grew up in
Germany listening to my dad’s music collection and felt
connected to duo Simon & Garfunkel and bands like Jefferson
Airplane more than the electronic dance everyone else was into.
I moved away from mainstream culture but was too shy
to dress in vintage at first, so I just enjoyed the culture: musi-
cians and actresses like Marianne Faithfull and Sharon Tate.
Now, apart from my main career as a make-up artist, I work
as a vintage model and collaborate with a photographer
on Instagram, creating fashion looks and psychedelic
imagery that is faithful to the era.
If I don’t have to buy new I don’t, except underwear.
I trawl the flea markets and I love original go-go boots. My
home is full of ’60s furniture, pottery and artworks.
Beyond the spectacular visuals, there’s another reason
why it was a golden era. The world changed forever: a whole
generation pushed boundaries and decided to rethink every-
thing. It’s not just the fashion that aligns with the person I
want to be, but the spirit of the age. A lot of people weren’t as
money-oriented or obsessed with making it as the generation
before, and I think the ’60s, ’70s counterculture is where our
collective mind is at: being happy and making things better.
Why wouldn’t I wear the amazing fashion to go with it?”
