late hours into the night. Another focus point for the design was to
bring in as much natural light as possible. To ensure this, 15-foot-high
brick arched windows were made on one side of the workspace to
wash the space in day light. Speaking about finishing touches, the
architects mention, “Bespoke pallet wood tables were fabricated to
the highest detail to go with the industrial aesthetic and aluminum-
back arm chairs were made to stand out in the executive mezzanine.”
The space thus created is modern, and yet acknowledges its industrial
past by choosing to retain the industrial design language albeit in a
manner that makes it elegantly contemporary. Speaking of the fresh,
positive vibe of the space, Robert Godinho, founder and director
of ‘WhiteBalance’ who collaborated closely with the architects to
evolve the design, says, “This is where I feel most at home, enjoying
intellectual, creative points of view and having a pulse on all the
ongoing projects. The energy and vibe of a creative hub is what
defines the soul of the organization. Being in this space, helps me to
live in the now, yet giving me the vision of what next.”
In addition to giving an old industrial building a new lease of life,
the architects have also paved the way for dialogue in the area.
The transformative design presents a wonderful case for other such
industrial structures in Delhi, and across the country, that would
otherwise be demolished instead of being.
