How does it feel to have won the Best
International Breakthrough Act award?
COLE BECKER (VOCALS):“My heart
is racing right now. In a country like the
UK, everybody is trying to break through
and get ahead, so this is absolutely huge
for us. Kerrang! has such an incredible
international reach – we have friends in
California who are either trying to get their
band into the magazine or discovering
new bands that they love because of being
covered. How is this going to change us?
Well, we’re going to have to start dripping
in gold chains!”
Joey, your dad has won K! Awards with
Green Day and now you have one. Do you
have a collective family trophy cabinet?
JOEY ARMSTRONG (DRUMS):“It’s
awesome – and it’s funny because my
dad literally just sent me a picture of his
Kerrang! Award and said the same thing.
There is actually space in my house, but
it’s already pretty full up, so we’ll need to
get some new real estate to start putting
the trophies in. Actually, I think I might just
keep it on me. So what if it’s heavy? I’ll then
have to mail it to the other guys when it’s
someone else’s turn to look after it.”
How will you be celebrating your win?
COLE:“We’re actually going to go and
rehearse right after this. I know that
sounds crazy because everyone else is
going off to party, but we never really
stop working. We’ve got some big stuff
coming up that we really want to be ready
for – Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds,
Community Festival, TRNSMT. Oh, and
we’re going on tour with a little band
called Muse, too. Our summer is chock full
of everything, so we can give what we’ve
got to new people and have them fall in
love with us.”
