Is it true that you almost broke your
award minutes after receiving it?
SAM CARTER (VOCALS): “It is! I kicked it
over when I was standing on it for a picture.
I thought standing on it represented us
cementing our place forever. You probably
won’t believe me when I say this, but I’m
actually pretty good at looking after our
awards, but Dan [Searle, drummer] can
definitely take this one home. His baby can
play with it.”
DAN SEARLE (DRUMS): “Have you felt how
heavy they are? That’s definitely a hazard to
a baby – she’s just started crawling.”

How does it feel to make Kerrang!
history as the first band to win this award
two years in a row?
SAM:“It feels really great, especially as
it means we’ve got the bookends now!
Honestly, though, we’ve always worked hard
at trying to be a good live band, and we
can be pretty hard on ourselves if we think
we’ve had a bad show, we’ve messed up,
or we think something isn’t up to our own
expectations. But it’s a funny one to win too,
because you’re in a band to be a good live
band – all you’re up there for is to play your
songs properly.”

Your shows have had an added poignancy
in recent years. Does that make this win
all the more powerful?
DAN:“With everything the band has been
through, there’s definitely an atmosphere
to the shows that’s unique and you can’t
replicate. They’re special experiences, but
we only play a small part in it. We have
an amazing team who work with us. They
are part of the family, all working hard to
produce something special. People pay to
see us with money they’ve worked hard to
earn. This award makes us realise how much
people appreciate what we do.”
