CIC TROPHY MEASURING

T

his month, our team attended the
Highclere Country Show with the
National Gamekeepers Organisation.
The team were kept busy on the first
day, while the second was a little quieter. Mr
Berrington’s Perthshire roe topped the heads,
scoring gold at 158.35 points. At the other
end of the scale, E. Javori’s Berkshire muntjac
failed to make a medal, but was of interest
due to the extreme level of tooth wear. A
couple of good gold medal muntjac were
evaluated at the show: P. Wilkinson’s
Buckinghamshire buck scored largest at 68
points with J. Perschke’s buck from
Oxfordshire scoring slightly less at 64.5.
It’s also been a busy month for our
measurers around the rest of the country. Four

English red deer have been evaluated, two
making bronze from Devon and Norfolk with
the remaining two from Devon falling short of
the required score. Regular client, B. Driver,
achieved a gold medal for his Perthshire roe
buck at 139.37. L. Teanby picked up two
silver medals for his bucks taken in
Lincolnshire, scoring 115.7 and 125.5 points.
Two sets of Chinese water deer tusks
required evaluation by a panel of judges due
to their size in relation to the largest scoring
CWD. B. Sherriff presented an enormous set
of tusks for evaluation, which sits as the
largest CWD evaluated at 274 points. The
trophy has been recorded under the
Casualties category, as along with four other
heads the trophy in question was found in a
