Rovince’s ZECK-Protec tick-resistant clothing
comes with a bold guarantee, offering
optimum protection against ticks and
associated ill health and disease. Unlike
sprays and treatments that are untested or
certified, clothing offered by Rovince for
outdoor workers and hunters carries
independently tested anti-tick certification with
consideration towards both short and
long-term health effects of active ingredients
and chemical coatings, making sure the
protection is not going to cause you harm.
Mandatory checks on yourself after any
outing should become the norm, reducing the
chance of a tick bite and potential
contamination with lyme disease but small
nymphs can easily go unnoticed. Protective
clothing treated with Permethrin makes the
contained environment inhospitable,
significantly limiting the chances of a tick
physically reaching and attaching itself to your
skin before biting. I especially liked the
reinforced hems on the legs – they remain flat
when worn, removing the inviting folds and
creases in cloth close to the ground where
bugs are most likely to initiate first contact.
Yet all this must happen without feeling as if
you are in a 'Haz-mat' suit so normal levels of
comfort are desirable.
The Ergoline trousers are finished in a deep
green/brown colour, which suits the general
outdoors, blending with contemporary
camouflage patterns. It’s available in waist
sizes 30-44" (European sizes 46-60)
and shows what I would term the
perfect mid-cut, deeper in the
waistband than
Scandinavian spring/
summer weight
offerings but none of
the huge baggy crotch
cuts like American
trousers seem to
favour. They are
conventionally
machine washable at
40° with an estimated
lifespan of 100 cycles
before significant loss of the
Permethrin saturation (although
make sure, like most outdoor clothing,
to avoid fabric softeners and bleaches, air dry
them and although ironing instructions are
provided, is anyone likely to?).
They shed surface water fairly well to show
resistance, but are certainly not able to stand
up to the tall damp grasses and crops we get
this time of year and will become saturated.
They do dry easily and remain comfortable
without becoming clingy though. They offer
wind resistance and with a higher waistline at
the rear, keep the draughts at bay. Pockets at
the waist and legs lie neatly flat when not

filled and a wallet pocket on the rear right side
also fastens closed. I’m glad zippers aren’t
used here as these can damage seat
cushions. The left leg shows deeper pockets
and a long knife sleeve to the rear of the thigh.
All have popper closures, so are quieter than
Velcro but not as silent as buttons. They are
all lined for extra comfort and a secondary
protection for valued items.
Thankfully, a proper button, matte
finished, is present on the waistband and I
think that’s excellent because so many
clothing brands use hopeless poppers that
never stay fastened. Sadly, the inner
waistband shows no rubberised gripper to
keep your shirt in place, but there are two
shorter elasticated sections, making the
trousers exceedingly comfortable to wear

while moving freely in the quietly performing
50/50 cotton/polyester fabric.
Excellent standards of manufacture are
seen throughout, seams are flat with neatly
overlocked and trimmed junctions and
reinforcing panels in the crotch and at the
knees with stitched reinforcements applied in
problem areas like the base of pocket
junctions. These may seem small details, but
are critical benefits displaying the higher
standard employed in the EU. None of the
seams rub or chafe, the fabric remains light
and breathable in warmer conditions and its
close weave staves of excessive snagging on
brambles and long foliage.
