Never forget your shopping list

C

alory keeps track
of your calorie
intake. It uses
age, height and weight to
calculate a daily calorie
target based on your weight
loss or gain goals, and you
then enter your calorie
intake into the app to
monitor your progress.
You can do that on iPad,
iPhone or Apple Watch; the
app supports Siri Shortcuts
and can send and receive
data to and from Apple
Health. It provides a range
of feedback tools including
daily, weekly, monthly and
annual reports.

VERDICT

Calory is an effective
calorie tracker, but it’s
basic against rivals.

VERDICT

Originally Calory was
£2.99. The basic app is now
free, but the developer has
since introduced premium
features – such as barcode
scanning for food logging,
a large database of branded
foods, a Today widget and
custom reminders – that
require a subscription from
£13.49/year. That’s cheaper

Calory

A simple way to track calories

than MyFitnessPal, but that
service offers more detailed
reporting, fitness tracker
and fitness app integration.
It also puts Calory head to
head with other big hitters
such as Calorie Counter+,
Lose It! and Cron-o-meter.
In that company Calory feels
a little, ahem, lightweight.

with Reminders. The app
also uses Reminders’
geofencing tools, so you can
set the location of a shop in
Grocery, and be reminded of
your list when you get there.
Lists are shop-based, and
Grocery remembers what
you add to a list and uses that
to make suggestions. If you
prefer to keep apps separate,
and don’t allow Grocery

access to Reminders, you
won’t get the syncing or
geofencing benefits.
We found Grocery tricky
to navigate. Adding and
checking off items is fine, but
adding a new shop is clumsy.
If the idea of a dedicated
grocery list app appeals, give
Grocery a try but, for many,
Reminders itself is fine.

his grocery-
dedicated list app
now has a Recipes
section that allows you to
create recipes and store
ingredients. Recipes don’t
have to be recipes – you
could create a group of items
for your weekly shop, and
add them to a list in one go.
There’s a timer to help you
keep track as you cook, and
an Apple Watch app so you
can check off items on a list.
Grocery is closely tied
to Reminders. If you allow
access, when you create a

Solid new features;
not quite enough
beyond Reminders
to justify using it.
