Can I switch App

of doing this. Apple’s
official route detailed at
bit.ly/mfchid involves
changing the country

create a second Apple

country, validate that
with a free purchase,
then switch between
Apple IDs for the stores.
It’s still complex though.

Q

Why does my iPhone running
iOS 12.2 confuse the different
messages it has received in my
Voicemail, and how can I fix it?
by DAVID KILTON

A

Visual Voicemail is mainly the
responsibility of your phone service
provider, rather than iOS. Not all
providers support it: it’s one of the optional
features listed by region and provider at
bit.ly/mfwcsupp.
For a provider to support Visual
Voicemail, they have to run a server which
supports IMAP, the same protocol which is
used for many email services such as Apple’s.
This can also convert incoming spoken
messages into short text items similar to
email. To collect your Visual Voicemail, your

iOS device then asks that server for those
new messages, and downloads them to your
iPhone. This is all configured using SMS.
When messages are getting confused, it’s
most likely that there’s a misconfiguration.
To deal with that, update your iPhone to the
latest version of iOS, which also addresses
a vulnerability in Voicemail prior to iOS 12.3.
Check for any carrier update in Settings >
General > About, and apply that as instructed.
You might find that you can work around
this by saving your messages as notes or voice

audio messages, others text transcripts.
