MacFormat UK – September 2019

When Apple needed a
new home, it turned to
Jony Ive and architects
Foster + Partners. Together,
they created Apple Park, a
spaceship-esque marvel full of
sweeping arcs and the world’s
largest panels of curved glass.
It’s exactly how you’d expect
a Jony Ive-designed building
to look – and it really is a sight
to behold.

>Jony Ive has always been interested in
unusual form factors – just look at 2013’s
Mac Pro. Before that, though, was the
Power Mac G4 Cube, a miniature computer
housed in an elegant aluminium and clear
plastic casing. It exuded class, but its
perceived poor value for money compared
to other Apple computers led to sluggish
demand, and it was discontinued a year
after first going on sale.
Apple didn’t give up on small form
factor PCs, with the Mac mini making a
splash a few years later. It was the G4
Cube, though, that really led the way.
