What Ive’s departure
could mean for the
Apple design team...

Jony Ive leaving Apple


pple’s Chief Design Officer, Sir
Jonathan Ive, is to leave the
company and set up on his own.
However, “Apple will continue to benefit from
Jony’s talents by working directly with him on
exclusive projects, and through the ongoing
work of the brilliant and passionate design
team he has built,” said CEO Tim Cook.
According to some reports, Ive’s company,
LoveFrom, will actually be based in Apple’s

new HQ, Apple Park, in Cupertino, which Ive
was deeply involved in designing alongside
architect Norman Foster. (The concave,
brushed-aluminium lift buttons are said
to resemble iPhone Home buttons.)
Ive was born in Chingford, Essex, in 1967.
His father was a silversmith who lectured in
art and design at Middlesex Polytechnic. Ive
joined Apple in 1992 and has headed its design
team since 1996. He played a key role in the
