T

he Armor ATD
rugged portable
hard drive is
available in 1TB, 2TB
and 4TB versions.
The triple-layer shock
resistance relates to the
internal shock mounts, the
aluminium enclosure and a
protective rubber bumper,
making the 2TB model valid
for drops of up to 1.2m on a
carpeted concrete f loor.
The drive is quite bulky
and comes with a USB-C
cable and a USB-A adapter.

The USB-C port is hidden
behind a f lap.
The internal hard drive
has a 5,400RPM spinning
speed and 8MB cache.
Performance is average:
ATTO benchmarks yielded
read/write speeds of 165 and
140Mbps respectively while
Crystal Disk Mark notched
100 and 129Mbps.
There’s no bundled
software and no freebies.
The drive is backed by
a three-year warranty
and unlimited technical

support. It would have been
reasonable to expect a free
subscription to Upthere,
WDC’s cloud storage, but
that’s a missed opportunity.

The mechanically
stabilised camera will
help to make your
videos look good!

D

JI drones feature
clever gimbals
that enable super-
steady video in buffeting
winds. The Osmo Pocket
harnesses that magic in
a 12MP mechanically
stabilised camera that fits
in the palm of your hand
and weighs just 116g.
Sitting behind the 26mm
(35mm equivalent) f/2.0 lens,
which captures an 80° field
of view, there’s a 1/2.3- inch
sensor capable of producing
4K (3840x2160) footage at
60fps and 100Mbps.
The smart part, however,
is that as well as ironing out

the inevitable shake that
comes from hand-holding
a camera, the mechanical
gimbal enables it to track
faces or other subjects.
Controlling the camera
is easy with taps and swipes
on the screen or the press
of a button. You can also
connect it to a smartphone via
the included Lightning and
USB-C connectors. This gives
a bigger view of the scene,
and more intuitive control.
The Osmo Pocket saves
video and stills to a microSD
card and you can transfer the
files to a Mac for editing or
use your iPhone. You can

only transfer Full HD footage
(not 4K), to iPhone, but the
DJI Mimo app offers plenty of
editing control. Naturally, the
best results are created when
you edit 4K footage on a Mac,
but you can quickly produce
a slick-looking video from
the app. ANGIE NICHOLSON
