Wast Water

John is an enthusiastic Sony mirrorless

photographer from Hertfordshire who

is passionate about shooting landscapes

and seascapes. ‘This image was taken

handheld during a visit on a bitterly cold

day to Wast Water on a recent trip to

the Lake District. It was quite dark and

overcast when the sun suddenly broke

through the clouds and a shaft of light

lit up the mountainside.’ He uploaded

this to Instagram using the hashtag

Lonely Outpost

‘I’m an amateur landscape and

seascape photographer based in the

Lake District. I took up photography just

over two years ago for a creative outlet

and have loved it ever since. I have

adopted a style that seeks out moody,

atmospheric scenes or dramatic light.

This was taken at sunrise and not my

intended composition. I noticed the

clouds clearing over this ridge line which

left some nice layers on the fell and

exposed this lonely tree stuck out on it’s
