When was the club founded?
The club was founded in the 1990s following
the collapse of a photo club in a local
engineering firm and was then called the
Grantham Photographic Society. Following the
sale of the premises where we met, a move
was made to close the club down but a few of
us disagreed. New premises were found and
the club was renamed.

What does the club offer new members?
We offer new members a friendly atmosphere,
always ready for a laugh and a joke, a free cup
of tea or coffee (and a biscuit) and discussion,
or help if required, on anything photographic.
We also urge new members to enter our
internal competitions as we find this is a great
way to improve your photography.

Describe a typical clubmeeting
We meet on Tuesdaysandstartat 7.30pm
and after any announcementsfromthe
committee we proceedaspertheprogramme
be it competitions, lectures or practical
evening. Tea break is around 8.30pm and we
usually finish around 9.30pm.

Do you invite guest speakers?
We invite speakers on a range of
photographic subjects as well as judges for
our internal competitions.

Do members compete in regional or
national competitions?
We have started to enter regional competitions
and are up against some first-class opposition

  • but we believe we can hold our own.

How many members do you have?
We have around 40 members. We
occasionally run a six-week beginners’ course
on basic photography. I find it amazing how
many people own DSLRs but only use them on
auto and don’t know what the other settings
mean. These courses are held on Wednesday
evenings and usually end up with a few
members for the club.

Are there any outings or residential
trips planned?
We usually arrange a couple of coach trips
in the summer and this year we are
arranging a three-day residential trip to
the Forest of Dean.

Do you have any funny stories about
the club?
I was displaying a poster about our annual
