mentiontosomeof theotherfilters

PolarPromakesforitsSummitsystem,

howeverweonlytestedthefiltersthat

weresuppliedwiththelandscapekit.

Sincethenwe’vetakendeliveryof

PolarPro’slongexposureND1000filter,

whicheffectivelycuts10-stopsof light

reachingthesensorandis capableof turninga

1/60secexposureintoonethatlasts 15 seconds.

MadefromfusedQuartzglasswith 16 layersof

coatings,thefilterfeaturesa fixedaluminiumframe

arounditsexteriortomaximiseprotectionand

preventfingercontact.Atthetopof theframe

it hasa well-machinedgoldtabthatmakesit

easytoloadandremovethefilterfromthe

filterholder,whichPolarPronames‘the

core’.Thefilteris engineeredin sucha way

thatit canonlybeloadedintothecoreone

wayandtheprecisetolerancesinvolvedin

themanufacturingprocessensurea closefit

betweenthefilterframeandtheholderto

preventanylightleaks.

Oneof themainconcernsassociatedwithbuying

a longexposureNDfilteris whetherit’llproducea

colourcastornot.SomeNDfiltersareknownfor

leavinga coolcolourcastthatcanrequireworkin

post-processingtoremovethem.Thoroughtesting

of theND1000revealedthata colourcastis no

suchproblem.Withthecamera’swhitebalanceset

toauto,colourswerefaithfullyrenderedin everyshot

andmatchedhowI rememberviewingthesceneat

thetime.Thegreatthingaboutnothavingtofix a

colourcastduringpost-processingof courseis thatit

vastlyspeedsup workfl ow and turnaround times.

Verdict
PolarPro’sND1000filterpairsupbrilliantlywiththe
company’sSummitLandscapefiltersystem.It’snot
oneof thecheapestNDfiltersgoing,howeverit is
effectiveat creatingdramaticlong-exposureshots
withnocolourcastandis extremelyeasytoinstallin
thefieldwhenyou’rechallengedbytoughshooting
conditionsorsimplyneedtoworkquicklytogetthe
shot.If youregularlyshootbluehourorliketocreate
longexposuresduringsunriseorsunset,you’relikely
tobebetterservedbyPolarPro’sND8(3-stop)or
ND64(6-stop)filters,butif longerexposuresduring
thedayarerequiredandyou’veboughtintothe
