the company’s impressive HQ, just south of
Tokyo, and spoke to top executives about
Canon’s current line-up and future plans.

AP The EOS R5 has recently been
announced. It has dual card slots and
in-body IS, so what was the thinking behind
this decision?
Canon The EOR R5 is targeting high-end
amateurs as well as pros. When we came up
with the EOS 5D Mark IV, the dual card slot
was quite popular, so we thought it was a good
time to include this as a feature in the EOS R5.
Also, 18 months ago, when we released the
EOS R, there was a great demand for the

double card slot, too. In terms of image
stabilisers, as you know Canon has always had
IS features on lenses, but when the EOS R
came out there was great demand for in-body
IS, too. So by including in-body IS on the EOS
R5 we can appeal to a wide range of
customers, including those who aren’t able to
use stabilised lenses.

AP The EOS R5 is the first camera to
support 8K video. What is the thinking

With the EOS R5,

and DSLR markets
