Barking! Chris Porsz’s Pooches
Softback, 206 pages, ISBN: 9780957432949,
self published, £12.95. See chrisporsz.com.
NO ONE can deny the
dedication that street
photographer Chris Porsz
pours into his projects. In his
latest self-published book,
Barking!, he trawled the
streets to fi nd more than 200 images of man (and
woman’s) best friend. All of this despite the fact that
he had plenty in his archive already.
Not content with pounding the pavements in search
of those images, he also got down to their level, and
even spoke their language (‘with a little bark or a
woof’) to elicit a reaction. It’s amazing the lengths
photographers will go to for their craft.
Overall, the book is a good example of seeing a
project – and a publication – through from concept to
creation. While it’s admirable to want to produce such
a bulk of imagery, a tighter edit would perhaps have
allowed the strongest images to shine a little brighter.
Still, at less than £13, it’d make a great gift for the
dog-lover in your life. ★★★★★ Amy Davies

Oneof themost important photographers and
photojournalistsin post-war Britain, Colin Jones
followedTheWho in 1966 as they began their career
playingin musichalls and clubs. In doing so he took
early performance shots as well as candid pictures of
the band members’ daily routines. His photographs
captured young Roger Daltrey, John Entwistle, Pete
Townshend and Keith Moon just as the band were on
the cusp of global stardom – on the eve of their fi rst
number one single in the UK and later their
phenomenal success in the US.
There are 20 photographs in the exhibition, all of
which are for sale. They have been hand-printed by
Jones, and are also signed and stamped. Amy Davies
