Leipzig, Germany—Meet Ben

Long, the adorable Asian elephant

calf at Leipzig Zoo, who has already

proven to be quite the character.

Thousands of ideas were submitted

for this little guy’s name, and zoo

staff chose the moniker that means

“stubborn” and “determined” in

Vietnamese. And does it ever fit!

Despite his early health issues after

birth, the calf has managed to grow

stronger with each passing day.

Miami—Ready, set, race! After

chowing down on a hearty break-

fast, these sweet baby giraffes at

Zoo Miami were getting a bit rest-

less. So one of their moms, Mia,

encouraged her calf and her new

friend to get their blood pumping

by galloping around the exhibit.

The leggy pair quickly took off in

a competitive sprint while their

moms proudly watched to see

which baby won the race.
