Soothe a sunburn

Ensure a stay-put hairstyle

Whether you slathered on sunscreen
before going out and didn’t reapply
later, or you forgot to put any on in the
first place (we’ve been there!), a pain-
f u l burn is inev itable. For fast relief,
look to tomatoes. The fruit is packed
with lycopene, an antioxidant that helps
heal wounds by encouraging skin cell
repair and renewal while also helping
to protect sk in from f uture sun da m-
age, says celebrity aesthetician Jordan
LaFragola. What’s more, tomatoes’ anti-
inflammatory compounds help calm
swelling and irritation. You can give
those skin-soothing benefits a big boost
of aah when using a refrigerated tomato.
TO DO: Cut a tomato into^1 ⁄ 2 " slices, then
place in the fridge for one hour. Once
cold, rub onto burned skin and let sit
for 5 minutes; rinse with cool water.
Repeat twice a day until skin is healed.

Ugh! It’s so frustrating when we ta ke t he time to put
our hair into a pretty updo, and within seconds of
walking out into the hot, humid air, it comes undone.
Hairstylist Daniel Koye, who’s worked with Jessica
Chastain and Vanessa Williams, says you can keep
your strand style in place by applying a “holding”
powder made from cornstarch and rice f lour to hair
before styling. Like dry shampoo (but more than half
the price!), the ultra-powdery combination of corn-
starch and rice f lour creates grip and texture so hair
stays in place, plus sops up t he moisture t hat causes
hair to fall f lat, for voluminous style all day.
TO DO: In a bowl, mix 2 Tbs. of cornstarch and 2 Tbs.
of rice f lour. Sprink le a quar ter-size a mount into
palms; rub onto dry hair from roots to ends before styl-
ing. Tip: For a seamless blend, blondes and gray-haired
beauties can use the mix as is. Redheads can add 2 tsp. of
powdered bronzer into the mix. And those with dark
hair can add 2 tsp. of unsweetened cocoa powder.
