“Recently I picked up a set of
gorgeous vintage juice glasses
at the local flea market,” shares
Lauren Blum, FIRST assistant edi-
tor. “Instead of adding them to
my cabinet collection, I filled each
with garden blooms and displayed
them on a side table. To get the
look, I filled the glasses with water,
then cut six pink ball dahlias and
yellow decorative dahlias to 6" and
popped them into the glasses. To
finish, I inserted a handful each of
wild fennel and love grass to fill in
gaps and tucked in a pink ribbon
bow. So sweet and simple!”

Luscious lemon cups
“Lemon mousse is my favorite light
dessert to serve during the long
dog days of summer,” says Charles
Grayauskie, FIRST associate food
editor. “And this elegant, easy-prep
version is perfect for cooling off on
balmy nights. To start, I simply halve
3 lemons and scoop out the fruit
from inside, then freeze the lemon
‘cups.’ Next, I make 1 (3.4 oz.) box of
instant lemon pudding mix according
to the directions, but using only 1 cup
of cold milk. In place of the second
cup of milk called for, I fold in 1 cup of
whipped cream and 1 tsp. of lemon
zest, then spoon the mousse into the
lemon cups. They’re cool, refreshing
and they always get rave reviews!”
