Keep a cut avocado green
To prevent a leftover avocado half from turning an
unsightly shade of brown, lay several slices of red onion
in a storage container and place the avocado, skin side
down, on top. Cover the container and pop in the fridge
until you’re ready to use it. The onion’s sulfuric acid will
stop the avocado from oxidizing, and since the onion
doesn’t touch the fruit, it doesn’t impact its buttery flavor.

Your family loves squash,
but you could do without
the tedious task of seed-
ing it. To make the job
much easier, reach for an
ice cream scoop. Its sharp
edges will cut right through
the squash’s fibrous strings,
plus its deep bowl removes
plenty of seeds in a single
swipe. Your squash will be
ready to cook in no time!

You always wipe mush-
rooms with a damp paper
towel instead of rinsing
them so they don’t get
soggy. But it doesn’t always
get all the dirt. What will:
Dip the paper towel in
lemon juice first. The acid
will help loosen any dirt,
plus keep the mushrooms
from turning brown.
