THE HOLLYWOOD ICON

GETS CANDID ABOUT

HIS BOOMING CAREER,

HIS FAMILY AND WHY

HE HAS NO PLANS

TO RETIRE

I

t’s been almost 45 years since
Dennis Quaidgot into showbiz,
but the beloved actor — who has
three films coming out this year
alone — says his career is even
hotter now than it was back
then! “It’s kind of like ‘the
Dennis Quaid attack of 2019,’ ”
jokes the 65-year-old, who’s also
currently on tour with his band, the
Sharks — and has no plans to slow
down anytime soon. “I want to work
because I still love what I’m doing.
[In fact], I have more of a fire in my
belly now than I did in my 20s.” With
two of his (drastically different!)
films, The Intruder and A Dog’s
Journey, now in theaters, the father of
three — Jack, 27, with his ex Meg
Ryan, and twinsThomasandZoe, 11,
with his former wife Kimberly —
chats more about his life and his
plans for the future.

What drew you to A Dog’s Journey?
It hits the right note. It’s the oldest
relationship we can all relate to, man
and dog. [Plus], I’m a big dog fan. They
live in the moment and are very funny.

Your other film, The Intruder, is
totally different!
Yeah, my character is pretty demented.
I wouldn’t take my kids to see this film.
But I like to jump back and

forth — it keeps it interesting for me.
My strategy has really always been to
do as many types of genres as possible.

Your life is so busy. Do you ever think
about retiring?
I’m just not the type to retire. It’s not
the money anymore or doing it to make
it anywhere. I just really enjoy working.
I’d get antsy if I just had to sit

A TWISTED ROLE
“This is really kind of a
psychological thriller rather
than a bloody horror movie,”
says Dennis, who plays a
stalker in The Intruder.

“People can relate to this
film,” Dennis says of the
heartwarming, family-friendly
flick, A Dog’s Journey.
