PROJECT // framed nine patch


  1. Repeat to make total of four, cross
    cut slices.
    7a. Take two, Dark/Light/Dark cross cut
    slices and one, Light/Dark/Light cross
    cut slice and arrange strips alternately,
    illust. 2a.
    b. Join rows together to make one,
    Nine Patch block, illust. 2b.
    c. Block should measure 6½" square.

  2. Repeat to make four, Nine Patch
    blocks in total.
    9a. Take two, 2½" x 6½" strips cut
    from same light print and join them to
    opposite sides of one, 2½" x 6½" dark
    strip, illust. 3.


b. Unit should measure 6½" square.
c. Repeat to make four units in total from
same fabrics.
10a. Take Nine Patch blocks, strip
squares and one, 6½" light square cut
from same print as light print in strip
squares and arrange units in three rows
of three units, illust. 4a.
b. Join units together in rows.
c. Press seams for alternate row in
opposite direction.
d. Join rows together to complete block,
which should measure 18½" square,
illust. 4b.



  1. Repeat to make five, Block A in total.


Block B
1a. Referring to instructions given for
Block A, cut 2½" strips from remainder


To help keep sewn strips straight,
press line of stitching before
pressing seams towards dark strips.

join to opposite sides of one, Nine Patch
block.
b. Add two, 2½" x 10½" strips cut from
same light print to top and bottom
edges, illust. 5a.
