24 British Patchwork & Quilting AUGUST 2019

FEATURE // national quilt championships

Next up in size is the Cot Quilt category. A surprising lack
of entries in this category for some reason but the winner

award for Hand-Guided Longarm Machine Quilting.

As already mentioned, fi rst place in the Small Wall Hanging
category was won by ‘Exquisite Corpse 0.2: Parrot vs
Armadillo'. Second place was awarded to Birgit Schüller
with ‘Never Underestimate the Small’, a wall hanging made
up from small scraps Birgit might otherwise have thrown

combined fabric collage and machine embroidery.

The Large Wall Hanging category was won by Simone
Steuxner with her quilt ‘Rainbow of Hope’. Simone’s design
was free motion quilted and sparkled with about 1,500
