The National Quilt Championships will be held at

Sandown Racecourse, Esher Surrey next year from

The Wearable Art category awarded just the fi rst place and this

went to Andrea Ashwell with her ‘Circles of Life’ bag.

As with other shows, there were numerous technique awards

given out. Those I’ve not mentioned so far included the award

for Hand Quilting which was won by Sue Homan and her

bed quilt entry ‘A Whiter Shade of Pale’. The award for Hand

Appliqué was awarded to Brenda Ford and her bed quilt ‘My

Baltimore Quilt’. The award for Machine Appliqué went to

Sue Davies and her large wall hanging, ‘Illuminated Alphabet’.

The award for My First Bed Quilt went to Alyson Doherty

and her quilt, ‘Plum Snowfl akes’ and the award for the Best

Sampler Quilt went to Brenda Clough and ‘Aves’, a pattern by

Kathryn Kerr. The award for Embellishment went to Margaret

Harrison and her large wall hanging, ‘Obsession’ while the last

remaining Judge’s Choice was awarded by Jane Petty to Claire

Tinsley and her Theme quilt entry, ‘A Moment of....Refl ection'.

Finally and perhaps a sign of how our craft is moving, there

were place prizes for the Longarm Machine Quilting awards.

First place for the Computer Guided Longarm Machine Quilting

award went to Mary Cunningsworth and Maggie Breakspear

with ‘Mary’s Garden’. A second place went to Andrea Ashwell

for her Custom/Hand Guided Longarm Machine Quilted

entry, ‘Reminiscing’ and a third place went to Julie Barnes for

her quilt, ‘Never-Ending Circles’ and her Computer Guided

Longarm Quilting.

As ever, a lovely show and I look forward to visiting it again

next year. The Theme for next year’s show is ‘Traditional Twist’

which should inspire some interesting entries; so all of you

traditional quilters longing to try something a little diff erent,

now is your chance!
