CUTTING

  1. From each multi-coloured print cut:
    two, 12" x 22" rectangles.

  2. From each contrast print cut:
    two, 15½" squares.

  3. From contrast cut:
    two, 5" strips – handles.

  4. From fusible interfacing cut:
four, 5" x WOF strips. Sub cut two
    strips into:
    five, 5" x 6" rectangles,
    eight, 3" squares.

PREPARATION
1a. Trace pattern pieces given full size on
Pattern Sheet onto tracing paper.
b. Cut out pieces carefully on lines.
2a. Place pattern pieces on top of wadding
and carefully draw around them, dia. 1.
b. You will need to cut two bag sections,
two shaped panels and one base rectangle.
c. Carefully cut out slits in bag sections and
round buttonholes in shaped panels.

BAG SECTIONS
1a. Position one bag section wadding
piece onto wrong side of one, 12" x 22"
multi-coloured rectangle.
b. Using slits in wadding piece as a guide,
position two, 5" x 6" interfacing rectangles
on wrong side of fabric and underneath
wadding piece.
c. Remove wadding piece and following
manufacturer’s instructions, fuse
interfacing rectangles to fabric.

  1. Repeat with remaining interfacing
    rectangles and 12" x 22" rectangles, illust. 1a.
3a. Place wadding piece back onto wrong
side of one rectangle, ensuring interfacing
    is underneath slits.
    b. Tack layers together, illust. 1b.

  2. Repeat with second matching rectangle
    and wadding piece.

  3. With wadding side uppermost, stitch
inside each slit as close to edge of wadding
as possible. Do not stitch into wadding,
    illust. 2.

  4. Mark centre of lower edges of wadding
pieces and a point 1¾" to left of centre
    mark.
    7a. Place wadding/fabric sandwich wrong
sides together with 12" x 22" rectangle cut
from second multi-coloured print and pin
    layers, illust. 3a.
    b. Starting at mark 1¾" left of centre, stitch
around outside edges stitching as close
to edge of wadding as possible without
    stitching into wadding itself.
    c. Finish stitching 1" beyond lower right
corner to leave a turning gap of approx. 8".
8a. Trim excess fabric on three sides to
leave ¼" seam allowance. Clip corners and
    curves.
