3a. Pin in place starting along inner
edge, smoothing fabric outwards to
avoid any excess behind, before pinning
outside edge.

b. Appliqué in place using tiny slip

stitch, tucking any dog ears underneath

flower as you stitch, illust. 4b.

4. Once appliqué is complete, trim block
   so it measures 12½" square measuring
   6¼" from centre on all four sides to
   ensure flower is centred in finished
   block, illust. 5.

pieced star.
