Patchwork & Quilting UK – August 2019

(Wang) #1
80 British Patchwork & Quilting AUGUST 2019

The group has now been running for twenty five years with a
capped membership of fifty, with names on the waiting list.
We are also an affiliated group of the Quilters’ Guild of the
British Isles. The group is funded by an annual subscription
and we hold a monthly raffle with prizes of vouchers for a
local fabric supplier. If you are wearing a name badge, you
get two tickets for the price of one! Two founder members
are still with us and have served on the committee for all of
those twenty five years.

We meet monthly and cover a wide variety of different topics
with recent projects having included chicken doorstops, a
design challenge and finishing techniques. Members are
asked for ideas for the annual programme and wherever
possible these suggestions are followed through. At each
meeting we have a show and tell session during coffee time,
which can sometimes last for up to half an hour, the group
are extremely prolific makers!

The group began in 1993 after a group of ten ladies attended a patchwork class run by a lady
who had just done a City & Guilds course. They were quickly hooked! The group thought there
might be other like-minded people out there and so Heirloom Quilters was born. On the fi rst
taster evening there was an excellent response with over forty ladies attending.
