W

alking through a forest of birch
trees, artist Vakhtang was capti-
vated by the lush green colors that
surrounded him. He decided to make
a collection of new paintings focused
around the hue, “where each ‘set of green
colors’ would represent di erent feelings
and thoughts they triggered,” he explains.
These works, which also refl ect the light
changes throughout various times of

day, will be on view at Lotton Gallery in
Chicago, from August 2 through 31.
“First, I wanted to paint the same place
under several different lighting condi-
tions (like many impressionists did),
but then decided that I need an impact
of composition to get my point across,”
he says. “Also, psychologically, green
represents new life, new beginning, rein-
carnation of sorts...hence, this collection

is called Ever-changing beginnings.”
Most of the landscapes in his works are
not real, but rather based on the places he
has been. “I travel, see places, love them
especially in rain or fog and images start
forming in my head,” he says. “I do sketches
of those images. Some sketches then
become the base for my paintings.”
In this series will be works such as The
Season of Spring, Melody of the Meadow

VAKHTANG
