I

t is in the nonverbal prose of Julia
Klimova’s paintings that her art truly
speaks. “I approach each new work with
the idea that I want people to sense it
rather than just see it, in much the same
way music is felt and not simply heard,”
Klimova says. “If my work speaks to
people on an emotional level then I have
achieved what I set out to do.”
The narrative of her artwork is subject
to both her past and her present, grasping
what words cannot. Born in Southern
Russia, Klimova draws inspiration
from her childhood memories of the
land’s light, sun and warmth. Klimova’s
unique perception of color intertwines
with her natural ability to captivate her
audience visually through emotional
means. The separation of spheres
between the concrete and the existential
created by the artist instills a sense of
presence. Klimova encapsulates her
subjects through her versatility of genres
consisting of still lifes, portraits, land-
scapes and cityscapes.
She prefers to work primarily with oils
allowing for intricate detail and composi-
tion. The artist also finds that the time-
tested medium gives a wide spectrum of
rich and vibrant tones.
Her recent paintings are imaginative,
vulnerable, visually compelling and power-
fully expressive. Klimova uses a combina-
tion of palette knife and brushstrokes to
create layers of texture and color. The

intersection of Klimova’s timeless creations

coupled with the subjectivity of sentiment

is what she aspires every piece to convey.

To be named an artist is not only to be

materially mounted in one’s home but also

to live within the walls of their hearts.

Klimova’s work has been exhibited

internationally in places such as

Toronto, New York, Charleston, Atlanta

and the United Kingdom.
