COLLECTOR'S FOCUS
PORTRAITS

Everett Raymond Kinstler said over and
over, ‘The painting must have feeling,
imagination and it must communicate
the essential character of the subject.’
I see artists beginning to push portraiture
to the edges, which is very exciting, but
the essential ingredients remain the same
regardless of the execution.”
Since 2010, Lotton Gallery in Chicago
has represented the work of Italian artist
Gianni Strino. According to the gallery,
Strino takes a classical approach to portrai-
ture, which he developed through his
studies at the Neapolitan Artistic Lyceum.
Strino is considered one of the major
representatives of the modern Neapolitan
aesthetic. He often references the style of
Caravaggio, with his use of chiaroscuro.
In a recent piece, Blossom, Strino uses
this technique of dramatic illumination,
where there is an intense contrast of light

and dark adding sensation and impact.
In another painting, Art Nouveau, Strino
paints his beloved daughter Eleonora,
an accomplished jazz guitarist. She is
elegantly dressed in the style of the art
nouveau era, a time focused on raising the
status of all arts and culture and excellent
craftsmanship.
At T.H. Brennen Fine Art in Scottsdale,
Arizona, collectors will find contemporary
portraits by past and current artists. As
the gallery explains, “Adrian Gottlieb’s
paintings of the human form are not only
beautiful, they are masterfully created.
The intent, the execution and the soul of
the artwork leave the collector yearning
for more. The human form is a painter’s
most challenging subject and the gallery
celebrates those who have mastered this
subject. Artists such as Daniel Greene,
Adrian Gottlieb, Serge Marshennikov and

Nelson Shanks are painters that are cele-
brated for their success and their mastery
of the human form.”
PoetsArtists is an art community open
to visual artists, poets, art collectors,
writers, galleries and other art aficionados.
Throughout the year, it works with a
number of galleries and museums to place
its artists into collections and exhibitions.
Among its artists are Patrice Robinson,
Heather Brunetti and Alessandro
Tomassetti.
Robinson says, “My paintings are
inspired by the idea of human attachment.
Using negative space and the cropping of
the figure, I aim to illustrate feelings of
displacement in terms of the physical and
the spiritual.”
Brunetti strives to create a deeper
connection with her portraits. “I want the
viewer to relate and feel with the subject,”
