THE CAST WEATHERFIELD EXTRA

G

ary has so far done a
sterling job of hiding
the fact he caused the
Underworld roof
disaster. But four months after
poor Rana was crushed to death
under the rubble, the builder
buckles and finally confesses to
Imran that he was responsible
for his sister’s untimely passing.
The moment of unburdening
comes after a week in which the
pressure mounts and the net
closes in.First off, Nick happens
to spot himself in one of Beth’s
photographs taken on the
morning of the disaster, which
places him well away from the
factory. He’s long been a prime
suspect for the disaster, but now
it seems he has an alibi.
Meanwhile, Sarah becomes
suspicious of Gary when Carla

confides in her that she had a
‘dream’ when she was in hospital
in which he came into her room
and rifled through her handbag
containing her stash of stolen
phones. Sarah’s suspicions
pique when she
questions her ex about
the voicemail he
left on her phone,
and he’s cagey.
Unable to
shake the feeling
he’s somehow
involved in the
roof collapse, she
confides in Adam,
then calls the police,
resulting in Gary
being carted
off to the
local
nick.

‘Gary’s fuming when he realises
it was Sarah who shopped him,’
reveals Mikey North, who plays
Gary. ‘She is the reason why he did
a lot of this stuff in the first place.’
The jumpy ginger tries
to remain calm as he’s
questioned first about
the factory and
then about his
involvement with
loan shark Rick.
Returning to
the cobbles, he’s
horrified to learn
from Sharon that
Rick’s daughter,
Kelly, has
reported her
dad missing.

Meanwhile, as word gets
out that the police have him in
their sights, Gary faces the wrath
of Peter, who lunges at him for
destroying Kate and Carla’s lives.
Weighed down with guilt, Gary
calls in at the solicitors’ office and
drops the bombshell to Imran that
it was he who caused Rana’s death.
‘Gary’s kind of got a plan
worked out as to how he’s going
to try to get out of this,’ adds
Mikey. ‘However, once he’s
actually in the solicitors’ office,
it gets a bit too much for him
and he levels with Imran more
than he probably intended.’
Does prison now beckon?

Ben Price, who plays Nick Tilsley, says that his
friendship with co-star Jack P Shepherd, AKA
Nick’s brother David, actually helps them to be
vile to one another on-screen.
‘We get on really well, and because of that,
we are not afraid to be quite nasty to one another,’
says Ben, who has been playing Nick since 2009.

‘It’s essential that when you are going
for it in a scene, you go for it. It’s always
been very easy to work with Jack
because we both recognise that,
especially on a soap like Coronation
Street, you have to constantly show
different sides of a character.’
