Grief: Sam
helps Lydia
let go of her
emotions

H

aving first proposed at
Smithy Cottage, and then
again at Butlers Farm,
Pete pops the question
to Rhona once again, this time with
a bit more oomph.
His efforts work a treat –
Rhona says ‘yes’ and leads him
to the bedroom, where the couple
get passionate for the first time
since her hysterectomy. But while
everything looks peachy on the
surface, it’s clear that both of them
are secretly wondering whether
marriage is a step too far.
Earlier, Rhona is noticeably
awkward when Manpreet
mentions the engagement, and
falters as she takes in the enormity of
what she’s doing. Meanwhile, when
Pete later bumps into Leyla at the
shop, his ex-fiancé correctly guesses
that he’s still struggling with the fact
Rhona can’t give him children.
‘Even before Rhona had the
hysterectomy, this was an issue,’
reveals Anthony Quinlan, who
plays the broody farmer.
‘He dropped it into conversation
that he would like children of his
own, and she shut him down. Pete
being Pete, he just accepted it and
thought that going forward, things

might change. But he wasn’t being
true to himself.’
The pair keep up appearances
but things get very tricky when
Vanessa throws them a surprise
engagement party at The Woolpack.
Anthony adds, ‘They didn’t want
to make a big show of things, and

this adds more stress to their
relationship. It’s a lovely gesture,
but it’s not what they wanted.’
As the guests celebrate, the
‘happy couple’ look like they’re
anticipating a massive tax bill.
Will either of them find the courage
to call things off?

W

ith her traumatic past having been unearthed,
Lydia is desperate to leave the village, and despite
Sam’s best efforts to stop her, she flees in a cab. But
as she arrives at the station, Sam is there waiting for her.
Reaching out to his fiancée, he urges her to go with
him to the site where she buried the body of the stillborn
baby she gave birth to as a frightened teen, and says he
won’t stop her from leaving if she doesn’t find the visit
helpful. Lydia agrees and, once there, she finally gives
in to the grief she has bottled up for years. Having
confronted her past, can she now face a brighter future?

Facing the past

Laura Norton says she’d like Kerry Wyatt’s backstory
to be explored, to see why her character is so self-
destructive. ‘I’d love to see something come up from the
past,’ she tells us, ‘where you get to find out what has
happened to Kerry; perhaps a nice flashback episode.’
Laura, 36, adds she’d also like Kerry to get pregnant ‘to
see if the second time round she can do it differently’.

Maxine’s fairy-tale wedding is in
jeopardy when she and Damon
are told they’ll lose the booking
for their dream venue if they
don’t cough up the cash within
a day. With the clock ticking,
will they dip into the crowd-
funding money raised to give
‘ill’ Maxine private healthcare?
The couple later view the
venue with Grace and Sienna,
but are gobsmacked when the
manager reveals the amount
they have paid only covers the
first instalment, and they still
owe £7k. Meanwhile, Sienna gets
a shock of her own when she
spots two children whom she
believes are her twins Sebastian
and Sophie; snatched last year
by her ex, Warren. Is she right?

Elsewhere, pregnant Sadie
returns and asks Liam for more
cash not to give Harry an alibi
for the hit-and-run that left Grace
paralysed. The gangster comes
good and warns the brunette
she’ll be dead if she ever comes
back. But Sadie is going nowhere
fast as she then goes into labour.
Also this week, Joel tells Goldie
nothing can happen between
them. And as Tony confides in
Breda about how he has failed
as a father, has the killer granny
lined up her next victim?
