SatellitePREMIEREHORROR⊲
On the eve of D-Day, a band of US
paratroopers – including Jovan
Adepo, Wyatt Russell (son of Kurt
and Goldie Hawn) and Dominic
Applewhite – are on a mission to
destroy a German radio tower atop
an old church in a small Normandy
town. Beneath the church, however,
is a secret laboratory where an evil
Nazi scientist is hard at work at grisly
experiments... If you’re in the mood
for some down-and-dirty
exploitation movie fun, this is a
literal blast. Dir: Julius Avery 2018, 18, 120min

SPORTS DRAMA⊲Kevin

Costner is in his element as the

gruff sports coach who leads a

bunch of scrappy underdogs to

unlikely triumph in this stirring

sports drama set in 1987, and based

on a true story. Fired from his job at

an Idaho high school, Costner

reluctantly takes a position in a

hardscrabble Southern California

town whose residents are almost

exclusively poor and Hispanic.

Inspired by the endurance they show

running to and from the fields where

they work before and after school

alongside their families, he decides

to form a seven-strong cross-

country running team (including

Carlos Pratts) and take on teams

from wealthier schools across the

state... Dir: Niki Caro 2015, PG, 125min

CRIME THRILLER⊲Emily
Blunt is brilliant as a doggedly
upright yet vulnerable FBI agent
whose eyes are opened to the murky
realities of the war on drugs in this
queasily gripping thriller. She joins a
task force led by Josh Brolin’s
deceptively laid-back agent,
blurring ethical lines as they
criss-cross the US-Mexico border.
The film’s sense of dread and unease
keeps us on edge throughout.

Star Wars: Episode IV

  • A New Hope

ITV 1.30pm - 4.00pm HHHHH
SCI-FI⊲The original opening chapter of George
Lucas’s epic space saga is still exhilarating. Mark
Hamill is just right as farm boy Luke Skywalker,
who’s joined by Harrison Ford’s Han Solo on a
daring interplanetary mission to rescue captive
Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) and defeat an evil
empire. With monsters, robots and battles galore,
it’s irresistible. Dir: George Lucas 1977, U, 150min

PREMIERETHRILLER⊲ Bridesmaids
director Paul Feig heads into Gone Girl
territory for this chic mystery starring Anna
Kendrick and Blake Lively but his comic snap
is still very much in evidence. Kendrick is a
hoot as a nerdy mommy blogger and Lively
oozes drop-dead cool as her glamorous ‘best’
friend, whose sudden disappearance from
their small Connecticut town turns Kendrick
into an unlikely amateur sleuth. The film drips
with deadpan hilarity. And when Lively goes
missing - which is as much a puzzle to her
handsome author husband (Crazy Rich Asians
star Henry Golding) as it is to Kendrick – the
story keeps us on the hook with its unexpected
twists and turns. Dir: Paul Feig 2018, 15, 117min
